INDIANAPOLIS CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP TRUST FUNDS
The Indianapolis Chapter of the American Society of Women Accountants began a scholarship fund in 1957 with the first scholarship in the amount of $50.00 being awarded in 1961.
The Ida S. Broo Scholarship Fund was formally created in 1970. The purpose of this Trust is to provide scholarships and merit awards to women students of accounting for the purpose of improving or developing their capabilities and for the instruction of the public on subjects useful to the individual and beneficial to the community.
The Mary Lindley Wells Scholarship Fund was created in 2000. Mary Wells was a high school business education teacher in the Crawfordsville, Indiana area for approximately 40 years. After her retirement, she continued to be very active in the community. To honor their mother and her commitment to education, especially the education of women, Mrs. Wells’ daughters contacted ASWA and requested that the organization create a scholarship in her memory. The first Mary Lindley Wells Scholarship of $750.00 was awarded in 2001.
The Trust is administered by three Trustees, all of whom are members of the Indianapolis Chapter of AFWA. The Trustees are elected by the Chapter members and each serves a term of three years with one new Trustee elected each year. Donations are solicited and fund raising activities are held throughout the year to insure the availability of funds for distribution.
Each year the Trustees determine the total dollar amount available for scholarships and advise the Student Activities Committee which is then responsible for determining how many scholarships will be awarded using the available funds.
If you would like to make a contribution or receive more information about the Ida S. Broo Scholarship or the Mary Lindley Wells Scholarship, please see the letter below or contact one of the Trustees.
